Histopathology

Posted: 23 Jan 2008 07:47 AM CST

Publisher: A Harvey Miller Publication
Number Of Pages: 288
Publication Date: 1999-04-15
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0192632205
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780192632203
Binding: Paperback

Book Description:
This is the fourth edition of Professor Curran's well-known and widely used colour atlas of histopathology. The text has been completely revised and there have been additional immunohistological images added to the 804 full colour illustrations that make the atlas such a valuable reference text for students and pathologists alike. The clarity of the text and the colour balance of the sharply-focused illustrations are unique. The contents of each illustration were carefully chosen and balanced for the structural importance. The boundaries of the pictures are defined with precision, to make sure that very little space is wasted in the tissues. The general arrangement of the contents has been retained, with a chapter on each of the main systems or organs of the body. There is an introductory chapter of a general nature which demonstrates the more important reactions of the tissues in disease and at the same time teaches the student the basic language of histopathology, thereby enabling him or her to read and assess the significance of changes in the tissue as revealed by microscopy. Most of the conditions are common or fairly common diseases, but occasional rare lesions are included. This book is primarily an atlas, the primary purpose of which is to convey information in visual form. It is meant to complement existing textbooks. A new comprehensive index has been prepared for this edition. The book is intended primarily for undergraduate students but experience with its predecessors suggests that it is likely to prove useful to postgraduate students in training in pathology or other clinical disciplines.

Publisher: The Johns Hopkins University Press
Number Of Pages: 180
Publication Date: 2006-04-28
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0801882826
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780801882821
Binding: Hardcover

Book Description:
This timely volume reviews current data on the effects of estrogen on the central nervous system, highlighting clinical aspects of this topic. Experts from the fields of psychiatry, pharmacology, neurology, and geriatrics collaborate to clarify the known risks and benefits of hormone therapy and explore questions that remain to be elucidated.
Among the topics discussed: " Preclinical data on estrogen's effects on cognitive performance " The short-lived effects of hormone replacement therapy on cognitive function " Structural and functional brain imaging data regarding estrogen's effects on the central nervous system " Preclinical efforts to develop effective NeuroSERMs for the brain " The effects of estrogen on mood
Citing the ongoing confusion over the risks and benefits of estrogen therapy, the contributors emphasize the need for additional research on medication, doses, preparations, methods of administration, alternative therapies, and supplements.
This volume educates researchers, clinicians, and students on the current knowledge -- including the effects of estrogen on mood, cognition, and brain metabolism -- and provides guidelines for clinical practice and future research.

ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0801884519
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780801884511

Book Description:
Depression is a mood disorder that affects one in ten Americans in any given year. At one time too stigmatized to be mentioned in polite conversation, depression is now discussed frankly in the media, and advertisements for drug therapy appear everywhere. The third edition of this widely acclaimed book reflects changes in how mood disorders are thought about, and how they are treated.
Dr. Francis Mark Mondimore, author of the best-selling book Bipolar Disorder: A Guide for Patients and Families, here explains depression -- its causes and symptoms, and its treatment. He discusses depression in all age groups and in both sexes, as well as bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorders, and depression that accompanies illness. This edition encompasses more than a decade of new research, advances in pharmacology, and changes in public perception.
