Publisher: American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc.
Number Of Pages: 269
Publication Date: 2006-11-23
ISBN-10 / ASIN: 1585621722
ISBN-13 / EAN: 9781585621729
Binding: Paperback

Product Description:
Determining the amenability of personality disorders to psychotherapy -- a patient's capacity to benefit from verbal approaches to treatment -- is important in helping clinicians determine the treatability of cases. Michael Stone here shares the factors he has observed over long years of practice that can help practitioners evaluate patients, stressing the amenability of the various disorders to amelioration. By focusing on which patients are likely to respond well to therapeutic intervention and which will prove most resistive, his book will help therapists determine with what kinds of patients they will most likely succeed and with which ones failure is almost a certainty.

Product Description:
Due to the diverse diagnostic imaging techniques available (x-ray/CT, Magnetic Resonance, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasonography) radiologic examinations are made of an enormous amount of images, which means that the elements to be described and interpreted by the radiologist are sometimes exorbitant. Furthermore, the expectations of the population and the ones of the physicians requiring examinations are growing, so that besides patients, also so-called clients (i.e., supposed healthy people) flow into everyday clinical practice of a radiology department, based on disease prevention/screening programs.

The natriuretic peptides in cardiovascular medicine

Within the last five years, assay systems for measurement of plasma levels of brain natriureticpeptide (BNP) have been approved as a diagnostic aid for heart failure (HF). Similarly, nesiritide, a recombinant form of human BNP, has been approved for the treatment of acutely decompensated HF. Both BNP as a diagnostic test and a therapeutic modality are rapidly becoming integrated into clinical practice. The purpose of this review is to provide a brief overview of the physiology of the natriuretic peptides relevant to their informed clinical use. The current literature regarding the utility of measuring BNP for the diagnosis and management of HF is reviewed and practical recommendations regarding the interpretation of BNP levels are offered. The clinical literature regarding the use of recombinant BNP for the treatment of HF is reviewed, underscoring current gaps in our knowledge regarding the indications for and benefits of this novel agent.
